Great Bend Pilot Club - PO Box 503, Great Bend, KS 67530
The Pilot Club of Great Bend received a Helmet Grant from Pilot international for the Bike Helmets fitted and given away to the students who achieved perfect attendance during the USD 428 school year. The Perfect Attendance Bike Program has been awarding bikes for over a decade to encourage students to attend school every day in Great Bend USD 428 elementary schools.
The volunteer service clubs of Pilot International already focus on brain health and safety awareness through the signature BrainMinders™ curriculum. Pilot International’s safety helmet project – “Helmet People”, expands this effort by making quality safety helmets, in a variety of colors and sizes, available in bulk to Pilot Clubs across the U.S. Pilot International offers a Helmet Matching Grant to its clubs, to facilitate the placement of free helmets with as many youth as possible.
The Perfect Attendance Bike Program is an amazing program that honors our well-deserving perfect attendance students in USD 428. The dedication of our students and families to accomplish perfect attendance is no small feat. It takes a lot of work by students, parents, grandparents, and caregivers.
We are fortunate to have such a great community sponsored program that allows the Pilot club of Great Bend as the “Helmet People” the opportunity to continue our mission to provide free helmets to children in our County.
25 Pilot Helmets for 25 kids and 25 community donated Bikes During National Bike Safety Month
The Great Bend Pilot “Helmet People “were at it again to honor the kids in USD 428 who achieved perfect attendance this year. So, Congratulations!!! to all the students who received a bike this year for having perfect attendance. We are proud of these kids and parents who make learning and school a priority!
On April 2, the seventeenth anniversary of World Autism Day, Pilot club proudly partnered with our County Commissioners who demonstrated acceptance in action for this April's Autism Acceptance Month with the signing of Proclamation 2024-02 This Proclamation calls for knowledge and acceptance as it allows people to understand how to be more inclusive and build better more supportive experiences.
Autism Acceptance Month, formerly known as Autism Awareness Month, is a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. It’s an opportunity to promote understanding, acceptance, and support for the autism community.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. The aim is to shed light on the diverse experiences and perspectives within the Autism community, fostering greater awareness, understanding, and inclusion. By asking questions about health, safety, employment, and other key topics, we can amplify the voices of individuals with Autism and their families, to create a more inclusive society.
According to the Autism Society of America, Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the US. 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with Autism.
Pilot Club with our community partner Sunflower Divinified Services and local sponsors will be holding an Autism work workshop, “Making a Difference: Autism across the Lifespan”, at Barton Community College, October 5. Our featured speaker Dr. Kerry Magro, Doctor of Educational Technology and Leadership, has autism, he was a nonspeaking child until age 2 1/2. It took years to receive the support and educational guidance, and his own perseverance, to become the successful author and professional speaker that he is today. He comes to us to help others find ways to tell their story, and find their message working to create connections, empowering them to live fully.
